Community Hero Action Group partners with Bethel AME Ardmore, the Black Church Security Network, and Ardmore Victory Gardens to bring the 1st Soil to Sanctuary pop of the holiday season to the area. The cold weather didn’t keep people away. It was a beautifully sunny day with plenty of smiles and good music. The huge leafy collards, kale, squash, radishes, sweet potatoes, vaccine information, and terrific vendors made the morning fly by. We were so happy to bring this event to Ardmore and share important information about the Black farmers from which all of the food was sourced! #blackfamilyfarms!! The next pop-up will be on December 17, 2022 at Bethel AME Church, 163 Sheldon Lane, Ardmore, PA 19003 ( which will be even bigger than this one).

The Importance

The Black Church Security Network creates sustainable food systems across the US that are anchored by Black churches in partnership with Black farmers and small business owners.

Black farmers in the United States have been historically disadvantaged by systemic and institutional racism, including discrimination in accessing credit, loans, resources, and markets. As a result, farmers of color make up just 4.6% of all U.S. farmers. Events such as this help support these farmers by bringing awareness to their existence and also providing a pipeline for their goods. Learn more at https://blackchurchfoodsecurity.net/.
